The government and the Construction Industry Council conducted an investigation regarding payment practices in the local construction industry in 2011. They also launched a public consultation on proposed security of payment legislation in 2015. To promote fair payment in the industry, the proposed security of payment legislation will safeguard service providers, by seeking to ensure they receive timely payment for their work. The legislation also introduces a system of adjudication such that disputes can be resolved as soon as possible.
